“Anax” Needle Sharpener

          Size:    5 x 10 x 2.5 inches
    Material:    Wood with laminex top.
Contents:   Needle holder & needles, flat hone, needle, guide & rollers.

Donated to the Society by Mr. Bert Causby

Until the 1960s medical needles were made of stainless steel and required regular sharpening and re-sterilisation. In the mid 1960s American, French, and Japanese companies developed disposable pre-sterilised needles in individual packets. The collar was now made out of plastic. The collar for attachment to the syringe was changed from a “Record” to a “Luer”. Well known supplier of disposable needles in Australia is the Japanese “Terumo” company.
